Library Story Dogs Delight Young Readers
The popular read-to-me story dogs return to The Wilbur Aalfs (Main) Library on Saturday, February 20 for a series of winter visits. From 2 to 3 p.m. each Saturday, children of all ages may select their favorite books, and, in a comfortable setting, read aloud to gentle canine listeners—no appointment necessary. “Dogs and kids seem to bond almost instantly when they meet,” says handler Jean Gill. “I love coming to the Library with my dogs because this bond gently encourages children to keep reading as the dogs patiently wait. And to hear the kids improve from week to week, all because they want to be sure the dog hears the story is very heart-warming.” The read-to-me story dogs are part of the K-9 S.T.A.R.S. animal assisted therapy group. As certified animal therapy dogs, they have passed a temperament test and completed special training. For more information about this Library reading program call 255-2933 x 231. # # #
