Job Requirements

PART-TIME REFRIGERATION ENGINEER, $23.33/HOUR. This part-time position involves responsibility for the application of standard trade practices to the operation, servicing and repair of major refrigeration, air condition, heating/boiler and related units. Performs skilled work at the journeyman level. Requires possession of or ability to obtain a First Class Hydronic Engineers license. Will work at the Tyson Events Center. Position is part-tie with various hours including nights and weekends. Applications will be taken until position filled.

REFRIGERATION ENGINEER IV-6335

FLSA: Non-Exempt Reports to: Maintenance Superintendent


PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Under general supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent, performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the operation, service of refrigeration, heating and air conditioning equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed independently with review by the satisfactory performance of equipment serviced. Assignments are received in the form of oral instructions or written schedules calling for the operation, inspection or performance of preventive maintenance on equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION (with or without accommodation)
The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties are assigned.

• Applies standard trade practices to the operation and servicing of major refrigeration, air conditioning, heating/boiler and related units. Operates and services major refrigeration, air conditioning, boiler and heating units.
• Assists in the initial installation, set-up and movement of equipment. Inspection and preventative maintenance on motors, pumps, fans, condensers, coils, and associated parts.
• Changes filters, adjusts or changes belts; grease, tighten and replace bearings.
• Installs and adjusts thermostats and pressure controls.
• Performs plumbing work; building maintenance, change light bulbs etc.
• Performs minor repairs and other duties as assigned.
• May direct work of subordinate personnel.
• Attends regular meetings to receive directions and discuss plans with supervisory personnel.
• May require work to be performed on days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Prepares and maintains accurate records of materials used and work completed.
• Orders supplies, repair parts and materials.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees, city officials, clients, guests, and staff.
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance at work.
• Regularly lifts and/or up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
• Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency. In the event that an employee is excused from work other than being sick, they will be required to report to work in a state of declared emergency.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Graduation from standard high school or GED. Considerable experience at the journeyman level in the operation and maintenance of heavy air conditioning, refrigeration, boiler and heating equipment; supplemented with approved courses or training and instruction in boiler operation, refrigeration and air conditioning; or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.





MINIMUM ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Abilities
The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle and feel; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. Ability to quickly move hands, hands together with arms, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects, ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time; this involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue, ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing, ability to quickly and repeatedly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with your body, arms, and/or legs.
Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you, ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer), ability to see details at a distance, ability to identify and understand the speech of another person, ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Job Knowledge
Thorough knowledge of the practices, materials, methods, and tools commonly utilized in the repair and service of major heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; thorough knowledge of the mechanical operation of major air conditioning; refrigeration and heating equipment; ability to keep records of work performed; skill in the care and use of tools and equipment essential to the repair of refrigeration equipment; some welding skill; good physical condition.
Language Skills and Interpersonal Communication
Requires effective communication skills and the ability to provide effective and courteous assistance to customers (external and internal). Requires the ability to speak and write effectively in English with fellow employees; read in English; apply common sense understanding to the work process, procedures, programs and services; ability to prepare and maintain routine records and the provide and follow verbal and written instructions.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold and extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.


Special Requirements
Possession of or ability to obtain a First Class Hydronic Engineers license as listed under Sioux City Code Chapter 20.28.
