2010 Census
The City of Sioux City has partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau
to help ensure a full and accurate count in Sioux City for the 2010 Census.
What is the Census?
The census is a count of everyone living in the United States;
all 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the island areas, every ten
years.
What does it do?

The Census data helps the government make informed decisions
that will impact each and every one of us.

Determine how many representatives a state will have in the
U.S. House of Representatives.

For every 100 residents who are not counted, $1.2 million is
lost to the people of Sioux City over the next decade.

Used to determine locations for retail stores, new housing
developments and other community facilities.

For every person counted the federal government allocates
$1,200 per year.

Assists the government in making informed decisions on where
to allocate $400 billion of federal funds, including;

Allows the nation to see how significantly the U.S. has
changed since 2000.
How is it distributed?
A questionnaire will be delivered to house holds in March 2010
by the Census Bureau. The questionnaire takes less than 10 minutes to complete
and is required by law.
Is it Confidential?
Your responses are protected by law. All Census Bureau employees
have taken an oath to protect confidentiality and are subject to a jail term, a
fine - or both - for disclosing any information that could identify a respondent
or household.
Key Dates
March 1st, 2010 - Census forms are mailed.
April 1st, 2010 - Census Day
